Special Major
About the Major
The Special Major allows highly motivated students the opportunity to develop an individualized
program of study that cannot be realized within a single academic discipline or available
major. The special major consists of a closely monitored program of study in two or
more disciplines.
Student Learning Outcome: Students will use methods appropriate to their individualized courses of study to
demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines.
The Special Major at 爆料社区 is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and is granted by the
College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences (CHABSS). Therefore, the
academic disciplines and the majority of courses used for the Special Major will be
from departments and programs in CHABSS.
Steps to Propose and Declare a Special Major
- Review the Conditions for a Special Major.
- Review the Restrictions of a Special Major.
- After you have completed the above steps and you feel you are qualified to pursue
a Special Major, email the Interim Special Major Program Director, Dr. Carmen Nava, with your proposed Special Major concept, goals and objectives.
- Once a Special Major topic has been approved and with the aid of the Interim Special
Major Program Director, students must select a Faculty Guidance Committee formed of
two or more faculty members. The student鈥檚 individualized program plan is then developed
in consultation with the Faculty Guidance Committee and is submitted to the appropriate
college Dean for approval. The Dean, in consultation with the student鈥檚 Faculty Guidance
Committee, reviews and decides on the student鈥檚 program plan.
- Students with an approved Special Major must declare it manually by completing the
Change of Major/Minor Form.
- Submit the completed form to Dr. Domenica Pearl via email or you may drop it off at the Office of Academic Advising front desk at University
Hall 221.
- You will receive an email communication from the Office of the Registrar once your
major has been updated.
- Special Majors who have questions about their General Education, University, or Graduation
Requirements may contact Dr. Domenica Pearl.
