Criselda has been employed at 爆料社区 since 1993 and has been in her current role as Curriculum Specialist in Academic Programs since 2016. 鈥淚 am part of an amazing and dedicated team that coordinates the University-level curriculum review and approval process, publishes the catalog, archives course syllabi, and provides curricular guidance to the faculty and colleges. It is very gratifying to know that we are involved in the development of courses and majors that fulfill our students鈥 educational and professional goals.鈥 She is also a proud member and past President of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Faculty Staff Association (APIDA-FSA).

Her photographic interests are travel, nature, and preserving family history. In the inaugural 2023 exhibit for the 爆料社区 Staff Center Art Gallery, she shared her photos as an active, 11-year freelance photographer for the San Diego Union-Tribune/Pomerado News.

Her Spring 2025 exhibit will focus on nature (birds & butterflies) in her backyard, including a special 鈥減hoto wall鈥 that she created for her office. She also shares a couple of special portraits and one travel photo that is now a core memory for her family. This exhibit will also be bittersweet, as this will be Criselda鈥檚 retirement year, and will be filled with many moments and people that she will cherish.

small village on the water

"Assos Village, Kefalonia Island, Greece"
Art Medium: Color Photography

June 2023 鈥 We went on a two-week family trip and travelled to Greece to celebrate multiple birthdays and our wedding anniversary. We rented a car, rented bicycles, rode ferries, took a cooking class together, and went on a beautiful sunset sail over clear blue waters. We stayed in quaint mom & pop hotels and apartments and enjoyed getting to know the locals.

Assos Village is a picturesque hillside fishing village on the coast of the Ionian Sea, full of colorful houses, narrow alleyways, and bougainvillea.

Note the thin isthmus connecting that small landmass to the mainland. The Ionian Sea is in front of and behind those homes on the isthmus!

Bryan (left) bought a toy nunchaku from a shop down the street from our lunch restaurant, then we came across the Bruce Lee statue, and this happened.

"Monarch Waystation Dreams"
Art Medium: Color Photography

My first photo to be selected for exhibition at the San Diego County Fair (SDCF). The SDCF exhibit organizers receive over 4,000 entries from around the world each year, and up to 1,000 are selected to be exhibited and judged, so it鈥檚 always a thrill to be notified.

Our home has been a certified Monarch Waystation since 2015. In 10 years, we have raised and released 1,142 Monarch butterflies, 23 Swallowtails, and 1 Queen butterfly. We often invite family and friends to bring their children to expose them to the beauty of nature and experience the wonder and joy of butterfly releases.

My husband and I have given presentations on Gardening for Wildlife and Pollinators, and our home was on the Spring 2024 California Native Plant Garden Tour.

four stages of a butterfly's life cycle.

"12 Days to Butterfly (Life Cycle Collage)"
Art Medium: Color Photography

This follows one caterpillar as it transforms into a chrysalis, then emerged as a Monarch butterfly 12 days later (8/31/23 - 9/4/23). In contrast, a Swallowtail can take up to eight months before it emerges from its chrysalis.

Nine photos on a black background

"DIY Photo Wall"
Art Medium: Color Photography

I have a windowless office, so I created this photo wall to expand my office to the outdoors. Folks have stopped by and asked how I made it, as it holds up to eighteen 8.5"x11" photos, without individual frames and putting eighteen holes in the wall.

This photo wall contains a sampling of thirty-five different species of birds that I have photo-documented in our front and back yards.

Rodeo clown distracting a bull

"Bad Day at the Office"
Art Medium: Color Photograph

A rodeo bullfighter (on the ground) narrowly escapes harm while distracting the bull from a rodeo clown hidden in the barrel. Although they often wear clown makeup, rodeo protection athletes, also known as bullfighters, are tasked with protecting the bull rider and the bull during the 8-second ride. These men put their lives on the line, since more aggressive bulls were introduced in the 20th century. In contrast, a rodeo clown serves as the entertainer of the rodeo show, bantering with or heckling the emcee, and keeping the audience engaged.

A little girl with her parents six feet away from Santa Claus

A young family has a socially distanced chat with Santa. Nine months after the start of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, this little girl and her family were hoping to have a 鈥渘ormal鈥 Christmas. She was anxious to talk to Santa, as evidenced by her gaze and excited grasp of her sweater. This was the 2020 scaled-down version of the annual 鈥淐hristmas in Old Poway Park鈥 event that has since returned to attracting 10,000+ visitors over one weekend.

"Play Ball! Little League Opening Day"

Little League Opening Day is a huge community celebration where teams are introduced, and run together around the bases, holding their team banner, and accompanied by their coaches. Among the ceremonial activities, a specially selected player throws the first pitch, and the youngest player in the league announces, 鈥淧lay Ball!鈥  All the players, all ages, run with pure joy and excitement! Little League Baseball includes divisions for all children, from ages 4 (Tee Ball) to 16 (Senior League).
